Why It’s Hard to Be a Christian Man Today (And 4 Steps to Become the Man Jesus Wants You to Be)

Being a Christian man in today’s society isn’t easy. Every day we’re bombarded with messages that contradict what Jesus calls us to be. Culture tells us that manhood is about dominance, money, success, or sexual conquest. But Jesus tells us manhood is about humility, courage, integrity, servant leadership, and faithfulness.

So how do you stand strong when the world pushes against you every single day?

Here are 4 steps to becoming the man Jesus wants you to be:

1. Seek God First Every Day

Jesus said in Matthew 6:33:

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Before you look for success, approval, or solutions to life’s stresses, seek God first. Start your mornings in prayer and the Word. Ask Him to guide your thoughts and decisions. When you prioritize Him, everything else falls into place.

2. Surround Yourself with Godly Brothers

Proverbs 27:17 says:

“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”

You can’t do this alone. The enemy wants to isolate you because isolation leads to weakness and temptation. Find other men who will encourage you, challenge you, and walk this road with you.

3. Live with Integrity Everywhere

James 1:22 says:

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

Integrity means being the same man in private that you are in public. Being faithful to your wife or future wife, honest in business, pure in thought, and unwavering in truth. This is the mark of a man who follows Christ.

4. Serve Like Jesus

Mark 10:45 tells us:

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Being a Christian man isn’t about power or status. It’s about serving your family, church, and community with humility and love. Look for ways to lift others up and meet their needs. This is true biblical leadership.

Final Challenge

Being a Christian man is hard because it’s a narrow road, but it’s the only road that leads to life, purpose, and true masculinity. Jesus is calling you to rise above cultural standards and embrace His definition of manhood – rooted in love, truth, courage, and sacrifice.
