Making Dads Great Again

5 Things a Christian Man Can Do to Be a Better Dad

Fatherhood is a sacred calling. God entrusts fathers with the responsibility to lead, love, and guide their children toward Him. While no dad is perfect, every Christian man can grow by leaning on God’s Word and Spirit. Here are five ways to be a better dad, rooted in Scripture:

1.

Lead with Faith, Not Just Words

“But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” – Joshua 24:15

Your children need to see your faith in action. More than lectures, they learn by watching how you live. Make prayer, Bible reading, and church involvement regular parts of your life. When you model obedience to God, your family is more likely to follow.

2.

Be Present and Intentional

“Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.” – Colossians 3:21

Kids spell love T-I-M-E. It’s easy to get caught up in work and distractions, but your presence matters. Be intentional—listen when they talk, encourage their efforts, and create moments of joy together. Your attention reminds them they are valued.

3.

Model Love and Respect

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” – Ephesians 5:25

Your children will learn how to love others by how you treat people—especially your spouse and family. Show them what godly love looks like: patience, kindness, forgiveness, and respect. This will shape their relationships for years to come.

4.

Teach Responsibility and Service

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6

Guide your children to be responsible and to serve others. Whether it’s chores at home, helping at church, or acts of kindness, teach them the joy of working hard and giving generously. A servant-hearted father raises servant-hearted children.

5.

Pray Over Your Children Daily

“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” – James 5:16

Cover your children in prayer. Pray for their protection, wisdom, friendships, and spiritual growth. Pray with them so they learn how to talk with God. Even when they don’t see the results immediately, your prayers are seeds planted in their lives.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of being a dad. Help me to lead my family in faith, to be present and loving, and to model Christ-like humility. Teach me to guide my children with wisdom, patience, and grace. I lift up my children to You—may they grow strong in faith and walk closely with You all their days. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
